UNCA Alliance will be meeting every Monday night at 9:00pm in Highsmith 221.

Developments!

Tyler has some sketches done for our Webcomic project.  I’m going to go check those out and we’re going to start working on those right away. 

For those of you who didn’t get the email, we have meetings on Mondays at 9 every other week.  We’re discussing about having meetings during lunchtime so those that can’t get to the 9 oclock campus meetings can have times to hang out.  If you have any input you’d like to add on the subject, we’d appreciate it!

Hey, Look, it’s a new Writer!

Hey guys!  This is Dustin!  Flinn has left me with the writing duties for the blog!  I don’t know if this means I’m going to be the only one making new posts or not, but I imagine that they’ll want to collaborate.

Just some ideas about what I’m going to be posting:

First off, Tyler R. and I are going to be working on two webcomics to post on here.  If wordpress doesn’t allow us to post pictures, then we’ll just post the link.  I’ll tell you more about those later.

Secondly, I’ll probably post my personaly opinions concerning gay news and other aspects of the LGBTQ community up here, as well as yours, if you want to send them in.

Thirdly(?), like most blogs, I’ll probably put some random stuff up here too, haha.

I am in the Alliance office a lot, so if you see me on the school mail or have my phone number, shoot me a message if you want to see if I’m there and want to come by. Officially, I want to let you know that I’m committing to be in the office Wednesdays and Fridays 12pm-2pm in case you need to come talk, need a quiet place to do schoolwork, eat or hang out, or if you want to talk about anything that has to do with Alliance.

These bills propose amending the state constitution to provide that “marriage between a man and a woman is the only domestic legal union that shall be valid or recognized in this state.” If approved by the legislature, the proposed amendment would go before voters.

Queer Benefit Extravaganza for Tranzmission Prison Books!

Concert!  Trans 101!  Bake sale!  Come join UNCA’s Alliance on Wednesday, March 4 in the Highsmith Union Alumni Hall for a benefit extravaganza in support of Tranzmission Prison Books.  We’re kicking off this event with a Trans 101 workshop at 7 pm to educate students and community members about trans identity and trans issues.  After the workshop, at 9 pm, there will be a concert including local band performances by boys of summer, one tough cookie, and the rap stylings of A naturale.  You won’t want to miss this!

Because this is a benefit, we ask that you bring some queer-themed books and/or a donation of $3-5, that will go directly toward buying queer books and resources for queer and trans prisoners nationwide.  Also, don’t forget to bring a few extra dollars for our Bake Sale!

Tranzmission Prison Books is a books-to-prisoners organization focusing on providing books and resources to queer and trans prisoners nationwide. Alliance is a consciousness raising and activist group on the UNCA campus dedicated to creating safe spaces and links of queer community at the university.

Dragtastic Drag Show/Dance Party and Canned Food Drive

Hello gang! Just wanted to remind you all of the Drag Show/Dance party that is happening on Thursday the 13th in the Grotto on the bottom floor of Highsmith Union. It starts at 8pm and goes until 11pm. Come dressed in drag or just in a sweet costume. We are taking donations of canned food or cash for WNCAP’s program, Loving Food Resources so bring some with you. If you have any music requests or would like to perform in drag send us an email at alliance.unca@gmail.com.

Meeting Tonight at The Hop

Hello all!  Just wanted to let you guys know that we have our Thursday meeting tonight at The Hop on Merrimon Ave.  A group of us is meeting on the mini quad next to New Hall at 5:30pm and we’ll be walking over to The Hop.  You can drive/walk/bike and meet us there on your own which will be around 6.  We’re going to discuss our plans for the coming months *we have some exciting events in the works* and perhaps we’ll have another round of board games.  Bring one of your favorites if you’d like.  Come join us and chow down on some yummy local ice cream!
